Supporting Communities Where We Live and Work: Employee Volunteer Alysia Ness

February 24, 2021

When Alysia Ness, Mosaic’s Land and Minerals Coordinator – North America, first signed up to volunteer with the Red Cross Friendly Phone Program, she had no idea it would lead to a lifelong friendship. The program provides seniors in Saskatchewan, especially those isolated or who don’t have family nearby, with new social connections by pairing them with a volunteer in their local community.

Alysia met Evelyn nearly three years ago when they were introduced through the program. Since then, they have shared stories of family and friends, love and loss and everything in between. Volunteers make weekly phone calls to provide companionship and support, but Alysia shares that they also learn about deficits in the senior’s emotional and physical wellbeing that they may not share with anyone else – including family. This information is gathered and shared with health care professionals to ensure they receive the care and support they need.

“Visiting with Evelyn allows me to build a friendship with someone who I will cherish forever, and she gained a friend whom she can talk with about anything,” said Alysia, the Saskatchewan-based program’s longest-standing volunteer. “Because of this program, I am also an advocate who can ensure Evelyn receives the resources she needs to continue living independently with quality of life.”

Mosaic Launches New Giving Program
Alysia is one of the many Mosaic employees who leave a lasting impact by volunteering in their local communities. Through Mosaic’s recently launched Employee Volunteer Program, our employees can receive a company match of up to $2,000 per year for the organizations they volunteer with and support.

“Volunteering in our local communities builds a better sense of connection and pride, along with a better perspective of what it takes to provide the services to the community, I am looking forward to engaging with the new program and am excited Mosaic is recognizing my volunteer efforts in this way,” shares Alysia

Mosaic is fortunate to have an engaged workforce who continue to demonstrate the power of our mission by giving their time, talent and financial resources to help those in need in the communities where they live and work.

Building on that strong foundation and commitment from our employees, we recently launched a new employee giving program which provides our North America workforce the opportunity to further support organizations that matter most to them – through matching financial contributions and incentivized volunteer activity.  Learn more here.
